Accommodation

We are happy to organise students’ accommodation during their time at Milner College. We have a full-time staff member dedicated to our students’ accommodation needs. We offer four different alternatives:
  • Homestay
  • Houseshare
  • Hostel
  • Apartments

We charge an Accommodation Placement Fee of AUD195 for any of the above options.

Homestay - AUD230/week ($240 per week in 2013)

Around 75% of our students request homestay. This is where we place a student in the home of an Australian family. Students stay in a single private room and receive breakfast and dinner 7 days a week, plus lunch on the weekends. We carefully select only families who are friendly and kind, have a pleasant and comfortable house and who are genuinely interested in welcoming students into their home. All our families must present us with a Working with Children Check.

Homestay is the best option for students who are keen to practice their English. There is opportunity for conversation over dinner and interaction on the weekends. Our families often include students in family activities such as weekend BBQs or a trip to the cinema. Many students need support and assistance when they first arrive in a foreign country and homestay can offer this security. Some of our students have formed lifelong friendships with their host families.

Students can choose to share a twin or double room with a friend or partner. There is a $10 discount per week per person for this arrangement.

Students over 16 and under 18 (who are not part of a group study tour) can also be placed in homestay accommodation, however it is Milner College's policy that these young students receive extra pastoral care.  There are some extra costs involved, please download our Under 18 Terms & Conditions and Homestay Application Form

We try our best to place students close to the city and can guarantee a travelling time of 15 - 40 minutes on the bus or train. However, Australian cities are spread out and homestay families rarely live in the city centre.

Houseshare - AUD 160/week ($165 per week in 2013)

Similar to homestay, however students prepare all their own meals, no food is included.  Students stay in a single private room in the home of an Australian person or family. Students have access to the kitchen to prepare their own food, as well sharing bathroom and living facilities. There is opportunity for interaction, although houseshare students are usually more independent. There is usually another international student sharing the home.

Students can choose to share a twin or double room with a friend or partner. There is a $10 discount per week per person for this arrangement.

Apartment accommodation suits students who enjoy their independence. Many enjoy the experience of sharing an apartment with a friend or classmate.

Townsend Lodge

Hostel/Backpackers - AUD266/week

Townsend Lodge is a backpackers' hostel in Perth ’s city centre, 2 minutes’ walk from Milner College. Students stay in single private rooms and share a bathroom with other residents. In each room there is a single bed (includes linen), desk & chair, bookshelf and wardrobe. There are a few double rooms available – the “Studio Double” costs AUD100 per night and has its own ensuite bathroom and kitchenette. The “Standard Double” costs AUD65 per night and has a double bed instead of a single.

There is a large communal kitchen where students can store their food and prepare their own meals. Townsend also has its own café and a large comfortable living area with access to cable television. There is a shared laundry with washing machines, irons and ironing boards.
