Selection criteria
Ideally, applicants should be at least twenty years old by the commencement of the course. They must have a sound education and academic background. Most will have a degree (in any subject). Experience of learning languages is valued.
Applicants without a degree or recognised diploma will be considered. The basic minimum requirement is successful Tertiary Entrance or an adequate STAT result. However please note, should you wish to teach in Australia, a bachelors degree is required.
Candidates for all courses are selected on the basis of an interview and a short pre-course written test done at the time of the interview. Acceptance is not automatic. Successful applicants are given a comprehensive pre-course learning task to be completed prior to the course commencement date. This task, which takes 15 - 20 hours to complete, is very good preparation for the course. Its aim is to provide familiarity with aspects of language analysis and to introduce phonology (i.e. the sound system of English).
