Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
CAE is a full time course only, entry to which is gained after passing our pre-entry test.
It is a suitable course for students who are able to communicate with confidence in English, both socially and professionally. CAE requires a high level of competence in all areas of the language and indicates an ability to easily deal with most aspects of everyday life.
CAE learners should be able to engage in business, study and higher education, in English, at a proficient level. The Advanced Certificate is a valuable qualification for students who want to work or study abroad as it is recognized by many universities and some employers.
The CAE course focuses on real world tasks and the examination tests the student's ability to use the English language in a variety of practical situations. Exam candidates should be able to participate in detailed discussions, express opinions clearly and produce business letters and reports. They should also be aware of the different styles of English appropriate to different situations.
The CAE examination is comprised of five separate papers:
- Reading - 1 hour 15 minutes
- Writing - 2 hours
- English in Use - 1 hour 30 minutes
- Listening - 45 minutes
- Speaking - 15 minutes
A student who passes the Cambridge Advanced English examination would gain an equivalent approximate TOEFL score of 550+, a TOEIC score of 700+ and an IELTS score of around 6.5.
