Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
Milner College, CPE is a full time course only. All students must pass a pre-entry test before gaining a place in the course.
The Certificate of Proficiency is the highest Cambridge English examination level available to speakers of other languages. This course is for students who have achieved an extremely high level of language skills and are able to function effectively in any English-speaking context. Students at this level should be able to function like that of an educated native English speaker.
Nearly all universities and employers recognize the Cambridge Proficiency Certificate as a qualification which represents significant personal and educational achievement. It is invaluable for those who wish to work or study abroad.
The CPE examination requires students to demonstrate that they have progressed beyond a good knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, to actually using the language with style and sophistication.
The CPE exam involves five separate papers:
- Reading - 1 hour 30 minutes
- Writing - 2 hours
- Use of English - 1 hour 30 minutes
- Listening - 40 minutes
- Speaking - 19 minutes
A student who has passed the Cambridge Proficiency exam would gain an equivalent TOEFL score of approximately 575-600, 800+ for TOEIC and an IELTS score between 7-9.
